Wine Room

This cosy wine room was designed, made and installed by Dougal Black Carpentry for a French Restaurant in Aberdeen. Celebrating the blissful marriage of fine food and fine wine, it allows its owners to offer exclusive tastings and to serve multi-course menus with accompanying wines and spirits. Groups of up to eight people can dine in this private room surrounded by over 500 bottles displayed in custom-made racks and cabinets.

Scottish and American oak are blended with marble, glass, copper and cast iron in this luxury re-working of the traditional wine cellar layout. The central arch provides a counter on which the sommelier can select and open wines. It sits over a cruciform or ‘diamond’ bin which can hold over 80 bottles and is flanked by two sizeable bottle racks with illuminated displays. Glazed cabinets with internal illumination accomodate special bottles and add interest and an inviting glow to this intimate space. A copper sink area with miniature oak drawers fits neatly beside the comfortably upholstered pew-style bench seating.

From the waxed woodwork and the richly coloured ceiling to the enticing glow of the wine itself, this room envelops you in warmth and invites you to stay a while and enjoy the hospitality.
