This symmetrical pair of traditional bookcases was custom-made to order by Dougal Black Carpentry in American cherry, stained and waxed to bring out the beautifully rich tones and figuring in the wood. The classical proportions and details all add to the charm; an imposing cornice, beaded pillars, delicate mouldings on the panels, ‘book spine’ inspired shelf fronts and a deeply polished counter top. It’s not just a pretty face though; there are over 32 linear metres (105 feet) of shelf space here, including plenty of enclosed storage (because some things are better behind closed doors).
The panelled doors are mounted on traditional brass hinges with subtle magnetic catches and have delicate knobs turned from contrasting bog oak. All the shelves are adjustable on recessed metal fittings making this beautiful furniture versatile and future-proof too.
As with most Dougal Black Carpentry projects, this luxury furniture was supplied pre-finished and installed efficiently over just a few days.
